Why Is This Unique?
Jasper is a compact sedimentary material – an opaque variety of chalcedony that is chosen for its beautiful color, pattern or appearance when cutting is done. While picture jasper can be found all over the world, specific colors or patterns are unique to the geographic region from which they originate. This Starry Night Jasper comes from Oregon, more specifically from the famous Hoot Elkins (deceased), who was the original miner of the material in the 1960's. He collected and hoarded many stones, consequently amassing copious fantastic specimens. These pieces are cut from his personal collection.
